I'm a Free Press subscriber eager to read and learn about the National Parks. So disappointed in both the Free Press and this article. May I urge you to get ahead of the curve? Shallow hit pieces with an obvious political agenda aren't the future for aspiring writers. Thoughtful, nuanced writing with some actual ideas about how to improve the fundamental plight of the popular parks would "land". The overcrowding and consequences of that have occurred for decades. Dirty bathrooms, really! Footage at 11- See Pee on a Toilet Seat! How about the next piece on: Reservation Systems for Overcrowded Parks - The Only Viable Solution?

The author clearly has no idea what she is talking about. As a life long visitor to Yosemite: camper, High Sierra backpacker, Half Dome hiker etc and et.al. I can assure her that there is nothing new here. The mismanagement has been going on for decades and has precisely zero to do with the 2024 budget or the 2022 budget or, or, or. Combine that with a state of 35M and the stress on Yosemite is a lock. Rachel Dec needs some perspective and she's missed an opportunity here. It's a misguided piece she's written.
